Special recognition for HoW College’s Director of Learner Services
Congratulations are in order for a staff member at Heart of Worcestershire College, Julia Breakwell, Director of Learner Services, who won the Special Recognition Award for 2016 at the National Centre for Diversity Grand Awards.
The award recognises the work that Julia led during the merger of North East Worcestershire College and Worcester College of Technology, to create Heart of Worcestershire College. Throughout the merger she and colleagues placed great emphasis and commitment to support Equality, Diversity and Inclusion performance in circumstances that are normally very difficult.
As well as the award for Julia, Heart of Worcestershire College came 15th out of 600 other organisations for their work around Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
Speaking about her award win Julia said:
“I am really pleased for the College, it’s a great achievement to be ranked 15th out of 600 diverse organisations by an external body. I am a thrilled to receive the ‘ Special recognition award’ but although it has my name on the trophy, I am sharing it with the rest of the College staff, students and external stakeholders, in recognition of the journey and the work we have done together to make a difference.”
HoW College attended the award ceremony after successfully achieving the Investors in Diversity Standard at Stage 2.
The Investors in Diversity Award is recognised as much more than just a highly prized and prestigious quality mark. It provides an all-encompassing methodology for improving Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) practices in the workplace. Those that achieve the Investors in Diversity Award have been enabled to take a structured and planned approach to embedding EDI at the heart of what they do. It also provides an excellent framework to bring together an organisation’s work around EDI.
