Kick starting careers at HoW College

Sport students at Heart of Worcestershire College were recently treated to a motivational and inspiring careers talk from Ellie Maybury, Head Physiologist for the US Youth Women's National Soccer Teams.

Visiting from America, Ellie explained in detail how she has progressed through each stage of her career. From her time at college and university through to her previous employment as a Football Apparel Materials Technician at Nike. She has also spent time as a Youth and 1st Team Sport and Exercise Scientist at Birmingham City Ladies FC, and has been the U19 and U23 Women Sport and Exercise Scientist for The Football Association.

Ellie also discussed her most recent position as Head Physiologist for the US Youth Women's National Soccer Teams; giving the students an insight into her day to day role and the typical timetable used during the team's training camp.

The talk opened the student's eyes to pathways many of them hadn't considered before.

Speaking after the talk George Morris, Sport Coaching, Level 3, student said:

"I didn't know what a Sport and Exercise Scientist was before the talk and now it is definitely something that I will consider as a career. It seems like a really interested and rewarding career."

Georgia Harris, Sport Science, Level 3, student added:

"Ellie showed me that with dedication and commitment you can achieve anything that you want to. I really enjoyed the talk."
