HoW College welcomes Finnish football team

Earlier this month Heart of Worcestershire College opened the doors to their Redditch campus as they welcomed Finnish football team, JIK-DAM.

JIK-DAM, who currently play in the third division of Swedish football, stopped by the local College to catch up with Curriculum, Resource and Quality Leader, Chloe Jones, who spent 10 months of 2015 playing professional football for fellow Finnish team Åland United, alongside coaching JIK-DAM in their native country.

On arrival the team received a presentation about the College and watched videos about the initiatives that are run before being taken on a tour guided by some of the students; giving the Finnish team a chance to ask questions and learn about what it is like to study in England.

JIK-DAM also gained an insight into the sport curriculum at the College, participating in a volleyball session, delivered by the Level 3 Sports Coaching students and a short cricket session. The team also got to grips with a training session from Futsal expert, Enrique Cardenas, before taking on the Colleges Futsal students in a triangular fixture.

Speaking about the teams’ time at the College Julia Ahlqvist, JIK-DAM Team Captain, said:

“I would like to send my kindest regards to everyone that has been involved in making us feel so welcome and at home at HoW College. This seems like a very positive place to study”.
