HoW College celebrates outstanding students

Heart of Worcestershire College celebrated their outstanding students earlier this month as they hosted their annual Further Education Awards.

Hosting two ceremonies; one at Worcestershire County Cricket Club and the second at Artrix in Bromsgrove, students from across the four campuses celebrated their excellent achievement.

This year’s theme was ‘Tourism & Destinations’; in celebration of the tourism industry throughout Worcestershire and in recognition of the progression routes students can go onto after College.

The two evenings saw the College award over 100 students, from across all four campuses, various titles including ‘Outstanding Achievement’, ‘Employability Award’ and ‘Diligence Award’ in their respective areas. The nights also saw the announcement of ‘FE Student of the Year’ which was awarded to plastering student Ellis Laffan for Bromsgrove & Redditch Campus and Prince’s Trust student James Walker for Worcester & Malvern Campus.

In recognition of the theme guest speaker Oliver Carpenter, founder and CEO of Jigsaw Marketing and Tourism Ambassador for Visit Worcestershire gave an inspiring talk to students and guests about his life, career and how he came to build his company, Jigsaw Marketing and his successful management of festivals.

Commenting on his award win, Art and Design Student of the Year in Bromsgrove, Rahimul Ali, said:

“The award ceremony was great and I’m really pleased to have won my award. I’ve really enjoyed my level 2 course and I’m looking forward to returning for the level 3 course in September.”

Speaking about the awards ceremony and the students’ success Stuart Laverick, Principal and CEO, said:

“We are very proud of all of our learners and the achievements they’ve made both academically and personally throughout the last year. The Further Education Awards recognise those students who have made a significantly positive impact on their teachers, peers, staff and the College as a whole. I’d like to once again congratulate each and every one of them on their success.”
