HND students "tackle" elite sport

Heart of Worcestershire College's HND Sport students "tackled" the subject of professional elite sport this week with the help of Worcester Warriors, scrum half, Luke Baldwin.

Luke spoke to students about the different job opportunities and routes into the sports industry.  With many of the students progressing onto university or into employment, over the next year, it provided them with a key insight into various areas of professional sport from physiotherapy to strength and conditioning.

Juggling a successful rugby career as well as an Open University degree in English Literature himself, Luke highlighted the importance of striking the balance between work and academic studies. Moreover, drawing on his own experiences, he explained the various support structures in place to help students achieve their full potential.

James Thorne, HND Sport Leader and Lecturer, commented:

"It was a one-off valuable opportunity for students to gain an insight into top flight professional elite sport. Luke provided an in depth analysis of the support he receives at Worcester Warriors, and in the process allowed the students to see day to day routines of a number of specific sport experts in a variety of areas. I am hopeful to gain a positive relationship with Worcester Warriors and set up a number of work experience opportunities for HND Sport students."

Natalie Bolam-Wilson, Year 2 HND Sport student, added:

"Luke provided in-depth knowledge about the different career opportunities there are in elite sports clubs. His insight has really made me think about what I want to do after I finish my course."
