Course overview

Do you want to become a counsellor? Are you a good listener? Are you caring, compassionate and keen to help others? If the answer is yes, then this course could be the perfect choice for you.

This course is a recognised qualification in any profession where you need essential listening and communication skills. This is the compulsory starting course for training to become a qualified counsellor.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, a keen interest and desire to pursue a career in counselling would be advantageous.

You will participate in a face to face interview and provide a hand written piece of work to allow for an assessment of your literacy skills, as well as sitting a diagnostic test to assess level of English.

-Establish and sustain boundaries in helping role.
-Work empathetically as a helper.
-Focus on the helpees needs and concerns.
-Use self awareness in helping work.
-Use a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction.
-Use feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills.

How will I be assessed?

You will be required to complete a portfolio and to complete a number of written assessments. There will also be a formal exam at the end of the course.

What can I do next

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress on to the level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
