Whether you're thinking of becoming a mobile stylist or dream of owning your own beauty salon, our Certificate in Hair and Beauty will introduce you to the world of hairdressing and beauty.
The main purpose of the VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ) is to enable learners to develop hair and beauty skills, techniques and knowledge, which will prepare learners to progress to the next level of vocational learning. All the units in this qualification directly prepare learners for further study in the hair and beauty sector and have been designed as a foundation for further study both in the hair and beauty sector and more broadly. Learners will develop knowledge of the hair and beauty sector and use this as a basis for further learning at Level 2, as a full time learner.
What will I be doing?
You will complete a variety of practical activities from a range of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy skills which include basic skin, hand and nail care, shampooing, conditioning and blow drying. Health and safety and customer service. All activities will prepare you for further study in the Hair and Beauty sector. You will also complete theory related tasks to assess your underpinning knowledge. Studying English and maths is also a key component of the programme and all learners will continue to study these elements.
There are no formal entry requirements; however entry will be subject to a satisfactory interview. Learners will benefit from having a keen interest in the hair and beauty sector.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in a variety of ways including, practical assessments working on paying clients, written assignments or knowledge question papers. Part of your programme does require you to work independently completing given tasks to support your underpinning knowledge and you will also be encouraged to complete further research and skill building outside of timetabled hours.
What can I do next
You can progress onto a level two qualification in either hairdressing or beauty therapy, or diversify into an alternative level two programme within the area. You can also consider an apprenticeship pathway at level two this will involve you gaining employment with an employer either in hairdressing or beauty therapy, subject to interview and employer offering an apprenticeship opportunity.
