Course overview

Our Extended Diploma in Digital Media (Games Design) is an advanced qualification that mixes theory with practical study to give you the best head start in the industry.


Our diploma will help you to develop a range of skills and techniques in games and digital media software and technology. You will be taught through workshop-based sessions in the specialist Digital Media & Games Design Studio that encourages hands on experience of industry standard software and techniques. You will use the latest software and hardware to produce 2D Games, 3D Game Levels, concept art for media products, Digital Video/Sound, 3D Modelling, Animation and Environments. You will also have the chance to improve your employability skills by working on your communication skills and interview techniques

Please note that this course is predominantly aimed at 16 to 19 year olds.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have 5 GCSEs (A*-C) or (Grade 4/5 and above) including English and maths. Alternatively, you will have achieved a Level 2 Diploma, such as a Diploma for IT Professionals. Entry is subject to a satisfactory reference and interview.

Entry decisions will be discretionary at interview. Students will continually be assessed through probation period to ensure they are on the correct level.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of coursework activities, such as short tests, reports, practical activities and projects.

You will have the chance to work with local developers and businesses to create products for them, thus building your portfolio in a real working environment.

What can I do next

After successful completion of this course you can progress into employment or onto university or higher education. As a College we offer a Foundation Degree in Interactive Media & Games Development and a HND in Computing which are excellent routes for learners who have completed the Extended Diploma in Digital Media (Games Design), Level 3.
